Leah Zimmermann, MEd, PhD

Biography

Leah is a clinical assistant professor of special education at the University of Iowa. As a research fellow at the Iowa Reading Research Center, Leah conducts research on literacy instruction and assessment and helps disseminate evidence-based literacy practices to Iowa teachers. Previously, Leah was a middle school teacher, literacy coach, and reading specialist. She earned a Master of Education in elementary education from Marymount University and a Doctor of Philosophy in teaching and learning from the University of Iowa. Leah believes literacy is a civil right, and she is excited to support the IRRC’s mission of improving the reading and writing abilities of all students. Outside of her work, she likes to solve word puzzles, garden, and read with her sons.
