Iowa National Summer Transportation Institute
INSTI is a free summer STEM summer camp for students in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade in the 2025-2026 school year. This year's camp will take place from June 22-27, 2025 on the University of Iowa campus.
INSTI focuses on STEM education, transportation careers, leadership, college readiness, and more through hands-on activities, University lab tours, local and statewide field trips, and other community activities. Campers will stay in the University of Iowa dormitories.
To apply, contact kathryn-abrams@uiowa.edu or visit our application form.
Incoming Student Orientation
Summer Family Orientation is an opportunity for staff to share information with parents/guardians and incoming students. In July, Year 1 students and their families participate in a two-day UI REACH orientation. Students meet their peers, register for classes, and begin exploring campus. Parents connect with staff and fellow parents while exploring how to prepare their student to transition successfully to the UI REACH college experience.
Move-in is in August a few days before the University fall semester begins. UI REACH staff assist with registration, navigating the halls for move-in, and supporting UI REACH families as students settle into their new room.
During the afternoon of move-in, UI REACH staff review staff supports, expectations, and orientation schedule with students.
Fall Orientation further supports students in their adjustment to college life. For the first week of the semester, orientation events, including informational sessions, small group activities, and campus activities help students learn more about the University of Iowa and prepare for the UI REACH experience. Students learn about the weekly schedule, campus life, and campus navigation. Some of these leisure activities of orientation promote getting to know others and safety.
Bridge Camp
Incoming students and their families are invited to our summer Bridge Camp each July! In combination with summer orientation for first-year students, Bridge Camp is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the university and its resources. The summer camp provides a space for incoming students to meet one another and kickstart their time at UI REACH!
Transition Fairs
In their final year at REACH, graduating students develop e-portfolios to reflect on all they have learned during their time in the program and to create actionable plans for their future. Our transition fairs provide a space for students to present their e-portfolios to their classmates and teachers.

Alumni and Community
Continued Education
UI REACH is proud to offer virtual courses to alumni, current and incoming students, and the community. Continued education and skill development allow individuals to unlock new opportunities and advocate for an inclusive society where everyone can thrive.
See our current course offering on our UI Learn page.
Past course offerings have included Budgeting 101, Cooking for One, Social Skills for the Workplace, Personal Development, and Adulting Like a Pro: Health Hacks and Self-Advocacy.
“I think the virtual classes are fantastic as it helps me to continue to grow in my independence.”
“Our son has enjoyed and benefited greatly from the UI REACH continuing education classes. He enjoys meeting with students via Zoom and learning new skills. While participating in a traditional classroom could be challenging for him, he looks forward to these classes because he is able to manage them independently and participates every semester. It's also helpful that the classes are priced affordably.”
