Rhonda Nelson
Rhonda Nelson, MS, C-SLDI, serves as the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Coordinator for the Bettendorf Community School District and is a board member of The Reading League Iowa. She brings extensive experience in educational leadership with a focus on literacy, curriculum development, and teacher training. Nelson is committed to advancing the science of reading to improve educational outcomes and literacy for all learners.
As a certified LETRS district facilitator, Nelson has successfully initiated and designed professional development strategic planning that directly impacts the district's vision for literacy. Her work centers on universal instruction improvement through structured literacy practices, technical assistance to school leadership, and data-informed instructional strategies aimed at closing achievement gaps and promoting equitable, inclusive education practices.
Nelson holds a Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology, which has proven instrumental in supporting district-level change in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). She earned a dyslexia certificate from Mount St. Joseph University and maintains a Structured Literacy dyslexia interventionist certification from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Reading Science from Mount St. Joseph University.
Her research interests include effective word recognition instruction, MTSS, and implementation science. Through her various roles, Nelson continues to advocate for evidence-based literacy practices and systemic approaches to reading instruction that support all learners.
