Gamze Karaer, MA, PhD
Gamze Karaer is a researcher at the Iowa Reading Research Center, where she contributes to projects focused on improving reading instruction and assessment through data analysis and AI-supported tools. Her work centers on understanding learning processes and developing approaches that connect research with classroom practice, particularly for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Previously, Gamze worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Washington State University, where she conducted research on language, science education, and student learning experiences. She earned a PhD in Special Education and has experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as emerging computational approaches in educational research. Gamze is particularly interested in advancing AI-assisted approaches to analyzing classroom interactions and learning environments, with the goal of developing scalable, data-driven methods to support teaching and learning. Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates, swimming, and cooking.
