Gamze Karaer, MA, PhD
Gamze Karaer is an assistant research scientist at the Iowa Reading Research Center, where she contributes to projects focused on improving reading instruction and assessment through data analysis and AI-supported tools. Her work centers on understanding learning processes and developing approaches that connect research with classroom practice, particularly for students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Previously, Gamze worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Washington State University, where she conducted research on language, science education, and student learning experiences. She earned a PhD in Special Education and has experience using both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as emerging computational approaches in educational research. Gamze is particularly interested in advancing AI-assisted approaches to analyzing classroom interactions and learning environments, with the goal of developing scalable, data-driven methods to support teaching and learning. Outside of work, she enjoys Pilates, swimming, and cooking.
